We had faith that it just might ‘fly’ - so even before we initiated the campaign, we had of course being pursing our music dreams as if they would come true.

Therefore here's where we are: we have recorded the music; added beautiful double bass to it (thank you Ben Somers!), added gorgeous cello undertones on a few tracks (Thank you Andii Gosling!) and it is being mastered as I type by the nonpareil of sound engineering, Josh Clark (Get Real Audio). The hardest work has been done by producer Roger Jackson, who took such care when recording our music - and he's ensured that it sounds just like our live sound, but with added sprinkles of fabulousness. Well he is the leader of the ‘Fabulous Festival Choir’ (Towersey, Purbeck etc) - so obviously, everything he does is fabulous! Thank you Roger Jackson!

Our Album Launch Event is on Friday 15th December at St Mary's Guildhall in Lincoln. If you have backed our campaign, and would like to come along, please do book your ticket soon - there are such limited places due to fire regs!

Here's the ticket link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/rye-sisters-distant-light-album-launch-soiree-tickets-747922013877
The Rye Sisterstag:www.theryesisters.com,2005:Post/72819742023-10-03T06:40:08+01:002023-10-28T03:15:07+01:00HELP MAKE OUR NEW ALBUM A REALITY! This time, the majority of the tracks are self-penned and we have enjoyed a summer of ‘playing them out’. We are delighted that the new music seems to have been met with favourable murmurings (love that word!) and we have been bold enough to ‘book’ the launch event for Friday 15th December in Lincoln. So please do save the date as tickets will be limited (details to follow!)

We have had an utterly amazing summer, playing at Gate to Southwell (July), The Sweet Sunny South Festival (September) and more locally at Nettleham Live, in August. It was simply wonderful to play to such enthusiastic, listening crowds. We must also mention the wonderful Lincolnshire Day of Folk where it's plain to see how much talent there is in our county.

Here are a few pictures of us having a blast (at Sweet Sunny South) and recording, with our incredibly talented friend, Roger Jackson.
The Rye Sisterstag:www.theryesisters.com,2005:Post/72221272023-06-06T20:05:42+01:002023-12-10T18:48:25+00:00From West Sussex to West Scotland - Sunshine Singing Workshops all the way!

We have had an absolute blast recently!
If you would like to learn how to sing glorious harmony songs, like we do in the Rye Sisters, come along to 'Three Days in May' - a residential camp in Sussex, where you can learn a variety of songs - Americana, Transatlantic and kinda British in places even (yes we love that too!). There are limited places and you can look into it or book here:

Three Days in May!

It's a full three days, starting on Friday 27th May 2022 to Tuesday morning 31st May. Or if you prefer, you can come from Friday to Sunday, since Monday is not the usual bank holiday this year.

I've just returned from tutoring at an amazing singing weekend called 'Folk on the Farm' hosted by the marvellous Sue and Brian in Leicestershire. Gosh it was fun. Thirty odd people made the most glorious harmonious sounds - (by which I mean about 33 people, not that they were odd). Seriously, you couldn't have asked for a more fabulous bunch. The weekend before that - of 10th September - we were playing a gig at wonderful WHITWELL festival, Derbyshire, where the people were remarkably lovely too. How lucky we are.

Next up for the The Rye Sisters is a return to surely one of the best pubs in Lincoln. It's The Victoria, everyone - who have blissfully supported live music. We're there on 9th October and 23rd November. Please do come along and have a great time with us...even when we sing our most miserablest songs eva.

We're not yet 'back' of course, but we wanted to say 'Hi'. We're so looking forward to playing 'out' again - it's been a long long lonely winter, as a famous song goes... In the lockdown(s) we've been writing songs and doing some rather imperfect practising (given the social distance measures) whenever the rules have permitted. We've done some great improv-ed /avant garde shaky video production for you along the way. But one day, it'll be properly done and everyone can feel like pros again. Hopefully!

At the time of writing, we are playing the Gate to Southwell Festival in September. Sue is also hoping to get along to the Ely Folk Festival as a punter as there are some great bands playing there - in July. It's still running at the moment, which is more than we can say for a lot of these poor festivals which have had to postpone, understandably. These organisers are really having to hold their nerve and they need our support - as long as you've weighed up the risks etc and decide it's fine for you, of course.

Here's a picture of Ishani at our rehearsal spot in summer (outisde, 2 metres apart...harder to get those close harmonies when you're not physically as close!). Here's a picture of me with what I did in my summer holidays: I went to Shropshire, and then to my favourite mountain for the day - Tryfan and the Glyders. It was so wonderful to be out, even though I was on my own :(.

So here's to a fantastic 2021 when it starts. Sue has more news on a music front so keep your eyes peeled for an exciting event happening at the very end of May...if you like singing.

Stay safe, stay sane, everyone! See you soon we hope!

Just to let you know, we are performing at The Prince of Wales this Sunday from about 4. We are very excited to be performing on Sunday (it's been so long - our last gig was 16th March, and even then, that was pushing it!) but we agreed to play having carefully weighed up risks and the general feeling out there. If you do want to come, you must please book a table at the venue (01522 528894), preferably in the restaurant or outside area. This is a lovely opportunity to see some live music in a venue who have considered the necessary safety precautions. We are in good company: 'Jellylegs' will be kicking off the afternoon's beautiful music from 1, then it's 'Ebony and Ivory' from 2.30 ish (part of 'em, anyway!) and then us, and then 'August James' from 5.45pm. It'll be a lovely afternoon I hope (pray for good weather). We don't see this as the start of us gigging like crazy again, given the circs, just a timely opportunity to get out there and see if we can still do it! Perhaps we'll see some of you there, but if not, thanks for continuing to support us from afar. We have still been meeting up (socially distant-ish) to practise, and we've been writing some new material so that when we get the fanfare of the ALL-CLEAR (will that ever happen, omg let's hope so!) we can get back out there and play, sing, drink, dance and make merry at those festivals.

Love, The Rye Sisters, Ishani and Sue

Hi everyone!

Unfortunately, we can't come to you live at the moment (can't do that live stream thing because of course we live in different houses!). So here's maybe the next best thing. This time last year we were playing at Crossover Festival. It was a simply wonderful experience. The sound is great on this and the auditorium was lovely and cosy. Get yourself a glass of something and some popcorn, and pretend this is coming out live just for you.

Lots of love

Hope you are managing to keep relatively cheerful. We are concentrating on song-writing and learning some IT skills so we can post this sort of thing to you. We miss you lots - the crowds, the half a pint of Timmy Taylor (and half a cider for Ishani), even the struggle with the PA, the late nights, the being crammed in a corner, the pub dogs, the smell of the pub, the salt and vinegar crisps and the offers of a pork pie in exchange for a CD. All that. And we miss each other. And I know that is an experience a lot of us are sharing at the moment.

Keep safe. Keep the music strong.

Lots of love

We have just recorded our new song, albeit with pretty basic equipment and software to hand so you'll have to forgive the home-made quality of it. We recorded it apart of course. We've tried all sorts of musical solutions but no one has yet found something that works for playing 'in real time' across cyberspace. Never mind- we'll use this time to maybe write some new songs and learn how to record things. I'm pleased to say that my IT skills are getting slightly better - I'm a complete technophobe, generally and have no patience for this kind of thing!

The song is called 'I Can't Go Anywhere Without You' really, but these days, it would be more appropriate if the song were simply called 'I Can't Go Anywhere'. Like...well only to the shops for some milk and stuff.

Lots of love to you all 'out there'. Stay safe.

Wishing you emotional peace and sunny days with a sprinkle of rain, preferably overnight.

I thought I would update you but of course there is nothing really to say other than, 'Sigh...' Like so many bands out there, we are heartbroken about not being able to perform or even practice - and for those of you who don't know, it is 'virtually' impossible to play live with each other virtually. So for now, we are taking stock, trying out some song-writing ideas, recording our songs by sending tracks back and forwards. We are enjoying seeing the Spring do its thing in gardens and in Lincolnshire hedgerows, but, like all of us, we dearly miss our friends and wider family. And the pub. And you, our fab audiences. We can't do Live facebook streaming or such like, because we're not together. We're working with limited equipment so anything we put out might not be the quality of sound you're used to. We'll see what happens.

We hope you are managing to stay well and are not going too bonkers.

See you on the other side...

In the meantime, listen to Richard Thompson's Song 'Keep your Distance'. It's a good 'un!

Love

We'd like to give you all a hug, air kiss, elbow bump and (virtual, so safe) handshake at this particularly concerning time. Thank you if you have been out to see our gigs recently. Our hearts go out to those who are ill with the virus or are anxious that they will be, or that their loved ones may be. Those who are in the health professions are already heroes of course, and have a huge task ahead of them. It's also going to wreak havoc with folk financially, some more than others, and people are going to feel lonely.

We love playing music, but of course, like many other musicians, are finding that it is not wise or right-thinking to play gigs at this time. We will keep you updated of course. The gig on Thursday 19th March at Beerheadz is postponed as of tonight, following the PM's briefing.

Thank you all for coming out to support live music till now. We shall all miss it for a while, but when this blasted thing blows over, we'll be back, and we'll all celebrate together. We'll write songs and practise.

Keep the music strong.

Love

We've finished hibernating and we're out an about in force again - playing debuts at the West End Tap tonight (7th March) and at Beerheadz on Thursday 19th March.

Hope to see you at our upcoming shows locally and around the country. We're playing pubs, folk clubs and a few festivals this year and are delighted to be back at the Gate to Southwell Festival this June.

Looking forward to all the music. Hope 2020 is bringing you peace and happiness.

It will be fantastic. You will have fun. Come. You will not be disppointed. The only thing is you will be in Louth wondering what we mean by coming down from the mountain. But you'll see.
Just a big thank you for your continued support as we play gigs at some of our favourite venues. Last week we played to a lovely crowd as usual at The Strugglers Inn. People were in good voice - thanks for your support, everyone. This weekend we're off to Leek in Staffordshire for the Leek Americana and Blues Festival which promises to be rather ...epic! It actually began today, 2nd October. So many bands and so much to see! Thanks as always to the tireless efforts of the organisers at Leek festival. We can't wait. Ishani and I have been writing more songs and learning even more material to play so we hope to see you at a venue near you soon!

Thanks!

Sorry I haven't checked in here for a while! Been rather busy - as usual! Loved playing the fabulous Harlequin Festival in Norfolk and it was marvellous to see such immense crowds at the Lincolnshire Day of Folk yesterday (4th August). I loved listening to Homity, Stephen and Julie Wigley, The Miracle Cure and Miranda Sykes particularly so it was an honour to be up there with so many fine singers, musicians, songwriters from our fine county.

Please come along to the Stourton Estates Autumn Festival on 14th September if you are in the area - it will be beautiful. There are fabulous local bands playing and then there will be Elliott Morris headlining. And last year the ice cream was sublime.

See you all at a gig soon.

Thanks for your support as ever.

Arriving on Friday after a speedy trip through the middle of the beautiful peak district, we performed to a really warm crowd (thank you everyone - without you it'd be just a rehearsal!). All the lovely comments we've had about our music and performance are so appreciated. We're so grateful to been a part of this: it just makes us feel so connected to the human side of this messed up planet! We are so fortunate to have such great friends and it's lovely to meet new people too. The packed-out harmony workshop on Saturday was amazing! Great talent in the room - they just picked it up effortlessly! Anyone who wants more infornation or a recap just contact us through here. There are still a couple of spaces available on the Harmony weekend I'm running in Suffolk from 27th May, too - if you want to learn how it's done with a bit more time to spend on it!

Thank you everyone.

Next gig: back locally to the ever-wonderful Strugglers on Saturday 25th May. and then at Cleethropes Cider Festival (I'm worried that Ishani will be led astray by the lovely cider though...better abstain till after the performance) - on Sunday 26th May 2.15!

Happy trails!

It's not so difficult, actually... and such FUN!
Hello! Lots of people ask us how we get those harmonies in the songs we sing. If you'd like to learn, there is a fabulous opportunity coming soon - at the end of May. I have teamed up with singing director (and harmony expert) Roger Jackson, to offer a three day singing/ harmony workshop in a beautiful Suffolk tythe barn. The 4 nights/ three days workshop is called 'Three Days in May'. We're running it again this year to build on the fabulous success of last time - please check out the comments/ reviews. Roger has been Towersey Folk Festival's choir leader for oodles of years and his enthusiasm is boundless. Most of you probably know what I'm like.

Learn to sing Americana music in small groups and get a blend that really punches on those fantastic songs.

Relax in beautiful Suffolk countryside and wrap yourself up in music for three days.

The price includes food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and accommodation and tuition - £320 all in. If you want more than the basics, it could cost more if you want more luxurious accommodation options - but the basics are rather nice, I think.

Just wanted to thank the warm-hearted, generous Mansfield Folk Club for having us on 17th September. The crowd were so lovely - and what a great club it is. If you are in the area, you really should get down here to listen to some top-notch entertainment, We were lucky enough to be supported by Phil Doleman (ace uke and banjo player as well as just a great all-round entertaining top chap) - and some beautiful guitar playing from one of the club's own players. They really know how to make everyone feel welcome and there is a thriving ukelele club there that goes on before hand. Monday night, the Black Bull, Mansfield. Go there. Sandwiches, raffles, floor spots, nice friendly folk and Tina who runs it so efficiently. Now that's a proper folk club.

Thanks also to the Stugglers' Inn fof having us back tonight. We had a blast and the audience seemed to like it...so thanks everyone! Cheers! WHAT a pub!

We are playing at Leek fesitval next week (7th Oct) then in Louth the week after (12th) and then it's SOREFINGERS. We are SO excited. We have to do day jobs in between all this stuff, And child rearing. All of which is great and cool and lovely. But music - oh music! Thank you for the music.

Yes. I have had a glass of wine tonight, since you ask.

We just played the Gower Bluegrass Festival. It was awesome! So many fab people as usual and the cinamon buns they bake at the bakery at the Gower Heritage Centre are so delicious that it was worth the 11 hour round trip for that ALONE. We also heard some stunning music. We were blown away by The Rosellys (https://therosellys.vpweb.co.uk/) and The Often Herd (https://www.theoftenherd.com/). Check them out! They're amazing!

If you are in the South West, go to the Cornish Bluegrass Festival this weekend (14th -16th September). You won't be disappointed. All these people are playing I think - and the marvellous Liberty Pike too.

We are next playing at the warm-hearted Mansfield Folk Club on Monday 17th. Back to play in Lincoln at The Struggers at the end of the month. See you soon we hope! Thanks to Gwynnie for the welcome in lights that we got when we stayed at her house this weekend (pictured!)

There's even a big orangey orb-like thing in the sky which is making everyone happy....and Stourton Estates Folk Festival yesterday (continuing today - check it out) was such fun. Thanks so much to Julie Pounds and her team for a wonderful family day. The woodland park is so beautiful. We went for a walk, tasted the icecream, ate the cake and had some delicious Thai food. It was all great.

Ishani is about to make the duo a trio, but we're performing at Louth Festival (29th June - this Friday) and the Dog and Bone in Lincoln on Sunday 1st July, right after I've run around the block a bit (doing the Lincoln10K for charity). I'm hoping I won't be late for the gig...I've have to run quickly to get back in time. If I look a bit red in the face. that'll be why.

Thank you for coming to see us at gigs and for supporting us by buying our CD. Thanks also to John Gill for this lovely photo!

I've just been to yet another inspirational week at Sorefingers Summer School, held every Easter (and a shorter version is held in October) in the Cotswolds. Anecdotally at least, we all now recognise a syndrome called 'post sorefingers blues' where everyone who has attended a course feels down becuase you have to come back to reality. It's hard to cope without a daily dose of fantastic live musicianship everywhere you turn, gorgeous harmonies and even people making you tea and dinner so you can concentrate on your music. Now I have to make my own cups of tea and listen to stuff on CD, which is fine...but where has the spontaneous bursting into song gone...and my other 250 friends? It's so quiet without all those banjos, dobros, mandos, basses, ukes, autoharps, guitars and voices...

Scratch bands (people thrown together for the week to perform) produce a concert on the Thursday night and everyone does a blinding job of entertaining each other. This year it was M.C-ed by the stunning bluegrass-fiddler Brian Wicklund and maestro banjo player Bill Evans. Just for fun, they did it in drag. Jokes could be repeated but you'd have to have been there. On the Friday night we were entertained by the tutors. Back in men's clothing, Brian and Ben were amazing, and we were blown away by Tatiana Hargreaves and Courtney Hartman's duet. They are just so stunning. The sheer beauty of it had some in tears. Emily Miller and Jesse Milnes led the singing class, and that was just so much fun. We did a flashmob one tea time of 'We'll camp a little while in the wilderness' - which was appropriate, since the weather wasn't great for camping this year. If you come, you can stay in a dorm: I'm just a glutton for punishment.

In short, I had a great time. You have to have this even on your bucket list. If you can't wait till April next year: Monday 22/04/2019 to Friday 26/04/2019 then come in October, 19th to 21st - a weekend slot, when Ishani and I will be running the singing and harmony workshops. We had a blast last year and we were so proud of the singers who attended. Lots of beautiful songs sung!

Sorry for the lack of update on here everyone! Been so busy as always. We are super excited to have played some cracking local gigs and also to have supported The Railsplitters at The Greystones in Sheffield, and Sara Grey and Kieron Means last Saturday at Faldingworth live. Keep in touch! We are next playing at The Strugglers (love that pub!) on 14th April. We are debuting at the wonderful Birdcage later in the month (28th April). I have to say this is the most genuine, warm-hearted, pub I've been in for a while. Equal to The Struggs in fab atmosphere and friendliness, they have LOVELY beer and the food is AMAZING! Go there even when we are not playing. But actually, come when we are playing, too. 28th April everyone. Be there. We'd love to see you :)

You see, the trouble with any ‘Sorefingers’ experience is that life afterwards seems a terrible bore in comparison to the heavenly harmony we enjoyed this weekend. Fortunately, as a singer, you’re ideally placed to exorcise the blues by...well - singing them, I suppose.

The organisation known as 'Sorefingers Summer Schools (SFSS)' has been running music workshops for bluegrass instruments for over 20 years now. It is hard to describe how marvellous it is. Set in the middle of the Cotswolds, banjos, dobros, fiddles, mandolins, bases, autoharps, singers and guitars meet up (along with the people who play them) to learn how to play better from the masters. Many of the tutors at the Easter week come from across the Atlantic to teach and are completely inspirational. Student 'scratch' bands form and some of them stick together afterwards. Lots of people 'jam' in the bar. Some dancing is usually involved. Maybe some drinking.

We were tutoring at their taster weekend this weekend just gone and we had blast! The students were simply amazing. Thanks for the experience and check it out for yourselves. There is a (near) week of heavenly singing and playing, jamming in the bar, and world class concerts to go to in April (1st-7th). Just click on:

Well here we are (or there we were - yesterday) at the fantastic Lichfield Folk Festival - run by the amazing Lichfield Arts team. It's probably the most welcoming festival I've ever been to (Patron John Tams was right, by gum!). The Guildhall was beautiful, the people in the audience and the folk at the bar were so lovely... and we had a great time, of course! Great to meet Steve Plowright, Merry Hell, A Different Thread and Sammy Carter and the Vagabond Collective among others. Thanks so much for looking after us so well Dave, Liz, Steve and other countless kind souls from the Lichfield Arts team.
Now time for some serious zzzzzzzzz

Hope to see you at The Strugglers next week (8th October) when hopefully I will be more awake!
The Rye Sisterstag:www.theryesisters.com,2005:Post/48627002017-09-23T21:51:31+01:002022-04-19T14:25:47+01:00Stugglers Inn Gig
Hello everyone!

Thanks for continuing to follow our progress. We are haivng a lot of fun playing in all sorts of different places, but are delighted to return to The Strugglers' Inn, in Lincoln on Sunday 8th October. This is a particularly warm-hearted pub and the Sunday music slot seems pretty special - one of those rare places where there is a real established community feel but if you're new through the door it feels welcoming too.

The music starts at 5ish and continues till 7.30/8 ish, with breaks in between. We hope to see you there!

Next weekend we are doing some recording with the hope of putting together a second CD. This will be such fun and I hope not too frustrating - as ever we're going for a live and 'honest' sound rather than multi-tracking the wotsits out of the music... watch this space!

We are always completely bowled over by your lovely comments. We're delighted that many of you seem to like what we do. Please come and have a chat when you see us perform - it's great to relax in the middle of a show and get to know you a little more. See you soon, we hope!

We'd just like to thank those of you who have given us such positive words of encouragement at our recent gigs. We had an absolute blast at the Adam and Eve this Saturday and Leadenham Day of Folk today was great fun too. It was great to see it so busy - and so much musical talent. Very well done to Tom and the team for such a well organised event.

Our next gig is 19th August at the Victoria Inn - please come along and tell your friends too. We'd love to see you there.

Have a good summer!
The Rye Sisterstag:www.theryesisters.com,2005:Post/47074492017-05-13T12:45:39+01:002021-01-18T18:09:07+00:00Festival Success!Last weekend we played at Orwell Bluegrass Festival at Orwell, Suffolk. It's such an amazing festival. The site is a large Scout camp, and at this time of year, there are fields and fields of yellow oil seed and blue bell woods, leading down to the estuary and out to sea (if you like)...The gang of kids we fed and housed between us all more or less were left to their own devices, and at times we found them at the tops of impossibly tall trees (which was a bit nerve-wracking). Gosh, put it in your diary and take the trip next year. Chris and his team do a fantastic job.

We ate like kings (or queens, I suppose)... and our souls were fed on the most exquisitely beautiful music. Watch out for 'The Midnight Skyracers' (all girl bluegrass band - absolutely stunning musicianship and SUCH fun!) And 'Shooting Stars' (the coollest suits in town). They were the best entertainment I've seen in ages. Great music. We felt really privileged to be among these giants of musical wow-manship.

We played on Saturday afternoon to a packed marquee-tent. We had a great time and the audience told us they loved it too. Monday was hard...I love my job, but sunny Suffolk with hundreds of friends (felt like I knew everybody, almost) takes a lot of beating. Wish it lasted at least a week.

Next gig at the lovely Victoria in Lincoln, with the added bonus of not being 3 hours' drive away. Saturday 27th May. Hope to see some of you there!
Sue
xThe Rye Sisterstag:www.theryesisters.com,2005:Post/46377982017-03-20T21:25:15+00:002020-12-22T05:45:59+00:00Thank you Victoria Inn!We had a blast at the Vic on Saturday night! If you were there, thank you for being such a great audience. The backing singing to 'True Colours' was much appreciated! Thanks again and see you again at the Vic in May, maybe? What an honour to win 'Song for Lincolnshire 2016' - and what a heart-warming, moving evening, filled with talented people playing original songs. We're quite exhausted from the excitement today, actually. Thank you to all the BBC Radio Lincolnshire team and especially Jono Brine and Tom Lane, who do such a great job of inspiring and promoting music in Lincolnshire. It is a beautiful county with beautiful people - and what a great audience. We don't think we'll get a better one to be honest: all those people really LISTENING! It was quite disconcerting in a way. And totally terrifying. But somehow we got through the song. Thanks to the marvellous judges (for their beautiful music and inspiration - and not just for granting us a result we obviously really appreciate) and to everyone who took part and turned up to listen. A fantastic evening! A poor, unfortunate woman named Priscila Biggadyke probably did not poison and murder her husband. Nevertheless, she did hang for the crime on circumstantial evidence. Apparently, she lived with her children and three men, one of whom was her quarrelsome husband. The others were Tom Proctor, a local rat-catcher for the area, and George Ironmonger, for whom Priscila allegedly held a candle. Locals at the time said that it was no secret that Priscila and her husband fought like cat and dog. Descriptions of their living conditions suggested something of a hovel with two beds. The mind boggles.

When her husband was poisoned with 'white mercury', he managed to point the finger squarely at his unhappy wife in the ten or so hours it took him to die his gruesome death. Upon her arrest, Priscila blamed Tom Proctor, the rat-catcher. In a way, this would figure: he used arsenic to poison rats. But Priscilla had also had her hands on it, and had offered it in substantial quantities to neighbours who had rat problems. The constables quickly dismissed Tom Proctor: I suppose it was much more likely that she'd committed the crime - and he had no apparent motive. It appears that poor Priscila then sleep-walked through the whole debacle or managed it clumsily. She said that her husband had probably committed suicide, then. There was a note, she said. Her husband couldn't read or write, the law said. He got someone to write it for him then, she said. Likely story, the law said. Where's the note?

... I burnt it, she said. So she hanged. It did sound dodgy.

But on his death bed, Tom Proctor admitted that he'd poisoned Priscila Biggadyke's husband.

What was his motive? Why would he take a risk that could see him with his neck in the noose? Did Priscila encourage him? And that's where our song comes in. Perhaps his feelings for Priscilla were complex: living in close proximity - two beds and three men... could he have thought he might profit with Mr Biggadyke out of the way? Did he love Priscila, or lust after her? When she gave his name immediately on her arrest, would he have felt betrayed? Were promises made and then broken? And how might he have felt, watching her hang for a crime he had committed?

Priscila Biggdyke was hanged on 28th December 1868 outside Lincoln Castle's court. By then, the hanging process had been ritualised and taken out of the rabid gaze of the spectator. A black flag was raised at the point of the hanging and bells were rung fifteen minutes before and after the dark deed was done. Her grave stone, which just says 'P.B', can be found in Lucy Tower on the Wall Walk in Lincoln Castle.

Sue Pomeroy
The Rye Sisterstag:www.theryesisters.com,2005:Post/43544212016-09-02T17:56:38+01:002022-05-18T07:05:22+01:00September 2nd 2016Hey folks.
